Last year we then introduced the pots into our large-container production for grasses. A large number of these grasses are grown under cover and a smaller proportion out in the open. In the open, the pots were exposed to extremes of precipitation, which did not in any way impair the pots’ suitability for use. Our grasses require other growing conditions. The extremely high air humidity, which can normally have a negative effect on the durability of biodegradable pots, but which is essential for the growing of grasses, caused no problems for these pots. And after some fine-tuning of the pot magazine, we found that there is no reason to doubt the suitability of these pots for use with potting machines. Growing tests between repotted plants and plants grown from the start in Napac pots demonstrated no differences in growing behaviour on our test bed." |

Eva-Maria Geiger Graduate Horticultural Engineer and Head of Ornamental Plant Cultivation at the Bavarian State Institute for Viniculture and Horticulture (Bayerische Landesanstalt für Weinbau und Gartenbau) in Veitshöchheim. A growing comparison was conducted at the Bavarian State Institute for Viniculture and Horticulture in Veitshöchheim in the spring of 2008, within the framework of a test programme on the sustainable production in ornamental plant cultivation, with 22 varieties of pelargoniums (green-leaved, dark green-leaved and stellar varieties) in 12 cm Napac NaturePots and in 12 cm plastic pots. All 220 plants grown in the Napac NaturePots were potted using the potting machine and then grown on ebb and flow tables under the same conditions as the varieties in the conventional plastic pots. The Napac NaturePots remained attractive, clean and free of fungus throughout the entire three month-long growing period. At the end of April, when the plants were ready for market, their size was recorded and their quality was evaluated. There were no differences, both in terms of growth development and the quality of the plants, between the two different types of pot – plastic pots and Napac NaturePots. All of the varieties grown in the Napac NaturePots had good to very good sales quality. The Napac NaturePot also remained attractive throughout the selling phase and was easy to transport. Following the growing test, the plants grown in the Napac NaturePots were transplanted into larger containers with their pots intact in order to continue to observe the biodegradability of the pot. During cultivation in the open, under end consumer conditions, the pelargoniums grown in the Napac NaturePots grew as quickly as the comparative plants, which had been repotted from the plastic pots. |

Napac NaturePots are the ecological alternative to plastic flower pots and provide an extensive number of benefits. They can be planted straight into the soil with the plant intact and then biodegrade in the soil within a few months. The dreaded “shock to the roots”, meaning the potential damage to the roots when potting on from a plastic pot, is now a thing of the past and, at the same time, the decomposing plant pot provides extra fertilizer for the plant. Extensive tests have shown that plants, which are planted in the ground in Napac NaturePots, tend to have a stronger root growth. The fully machine-compatible Napac NaturePots can be easily stacked, as they do not become electrically charged and can simply be disposed of on the compost heap or with green waste. The Napac granulate is produced by extrusion and generally consists of approximately 70% of natural fibres, which are processed with natural binding agents to produce the Napac granulate. All of the components come from renewable resources. The granulate has the colour of the natural fibres used but can also be manufactured in a number of different colours if required. The proportions of natural fibres and resins will be modified according to the type of use and the requirements of the end product. The natural fibres used are predominantly rice husks and miscanthus. However, all other natural fibres, can also be used. Napac products have been awarded international certification (AIB-Vinçotte) for their compostability). The Napac granulate makes a real contribution to conserving the environment and does not contain any crude oil derivatives. The natural fibres used by Napac are for the most part unsuitable for use as a basic foodstuff for human or animal consumption. The granulate is CO2-neutral and the manufacturing process has also been optimised in terms of CO2.

The enormous potential of Napac technology far exceeds the power and strength of a single company. The Napac granulate is manufactured according to a worldwide patented recipe in a doublescrew extruder. Napac sells the granulate, which is manufactured to customers’ specific requirements.
Napac developed with LWB the hot-cold pressing machines used today to manufacture the Napac granulate. The machinery is also supplied and sold by Napac.
Special tools and moulds are also required to manufacture the moulded products made of Napac granulate. Working in collaboration with a proven toolmaker, Napac has gathered experience over the years to enable it to produce the tools required for the Napac process. The tools are subjected to extreme fluctuations in temperature and exceptionally high pressure. Equally high are the demands placed on the material and the experience and expertise of the toolmaker.
An unlimited number of products for the most diverse areas of life and uses can be manufactured using the Napac material.

Chinaschilf stammt ursprünglich aus China, Japan, Korea und Thailand. Klimatisch hat sich Chinaschilf auch in Europa angepasst. Chinaschilf wird je nach Sorte 100 bis 300 Zentimeter gross.
Der NAPAC NaturePot verhält sich neutral, das heisst, dass keine oder nur eine sehr geringe Stickstofffixierung stattfindet. Wir empfehlen, anfangs nichts an der Düngung zu ändern, und erst falls es zu Abweichungen kommen sollte, zu korrigieren. Der NAPAC NaturePot ist pH-neutral, er hat keinen Einfluss auf den pH-Wert des Substrates.

Der Napac NaturePot ist ein zertifiziertes 100% biologisch abbaubares Produkt. Er ist kompostierbar gemäss der EN-Norm 13432 und besitzt das OK-biodegradable-Zertifikat von AIB Vinçotte.
Der NAPAC NaturePot kann über die Grünabfuhr oder im Kompost entsorgt oder mit der Pflanze in der Erde vergraben werden, in der er nach einigen Monaten verrottet.
Extruder sind Fördergeräte, die nach dem Funktionsprinzip der Archimedischen Schraube feste bis dickflüssige Massen unter hohem Druck und hoher Temperatur gleichmässig aus einer formgebenden Öffnung herauspressen. Dieses Verfahren wird als Extrusion bezeichnet. Der Extruder wurde schon vor 1900 für die Kautschukindustrie eingesetzt. Nach einiger Zeit entdeckte auch die Lebensmittelindustrie vielseitige Verwendungsmöglichkeiten. Durch den grossen Boom der Kunststoffindustrie Mitte des letzten Jahrhunderts hat sich der Extruder zudem als wichtiges verfahrenstechnisches Element in der kontinuierlichen Produktion von thermoplastischen Kunststoffartikeln etabliert. Die Verwendung von Produkten aus NapacGranulat ist ein Imageplus für jeden Produzenten, Händler und Käufer. Bei den weltweiten Diskussionen über Klimawandel und Erderwärmung profiliert sich das NapacGranulat durch seine CO2-Neutralität, Produkteeigenschaften und biologische Abbaubarkeit und ist somit die logische Substituierung von Plastik. Die Herstellung von NapacGranulat ist nicht abhängig von immer teurer werdenden Rohstoffen wie Öl oder für die Welternährung wichtigen Grundnahrungsmitteln.

Am Ende der Kultur ist der Napac NaturePot sauber wie ein Plastiktopf. Ist die Kulturumgebung sauber, bleibt auch der Topf sauber. Wie bei allen Töpfen kann sich Moos auf der Topfwand bilden, und es bleibt eventuell Sand oder Erde an der Wand kleben.
Das Wetter hat einen Einfluss auf das Aussehen. Durch starkes Sonnenlicht wird der Topf heller (verwittertes Aussehen), durch Nässe wird er dunkler.
Der Napac NaturePot ist ein sehr stabiler, 100% biologisch abbaubarer Topf. Er ist normal zu verarbeiten, ob mit Maschine oder von Hand.
Beim Bearbeiten die Töpfe mit der ganzen Hand umfassen oder vorsichtig am oberen Rand nehmen, damit der Rand nicht beschädigt wird.
Die neueste Generation des Napac NaturePot hat eine optimierte Wanddicke und garantiert beim Auspflanzen eine rasche Durchwurzelung und guten Kontakt mit dem umgebenden Erdreich.
Wird der Topf mit der Pflanze in der Erde vergraben, sollte man die Topfwand an mehreren Orten eindrücken. Dies fördert die Auswurzelung und das Abbauen des Topfes, ist aber nicht zwingend nötig.
Je nach Kulturzeit, Bodenbeschaffenheit und Grösse des Topfes kann der vollständige Abbau des Topfes bis zu 2 Jahre dauern.
Der Napac NaturePot muss trocken gelagert werden. Trocken gelagert, ist er fast unbeschränkt haltbar.
Miscanthus oder eben Chinaschilf stammt ursprünglich aus China, Japan, Korea und Thailand. Klimatisch hat sich Chinaschilf auch in Europa angpasst. Miscanthus wird je nach Sorte 100 bis 300 Zentimeter gross.
Mit einer speziellen Granulataufbereitungsanlage wird aus 70% bis 80% Naturfasern und Naturbindern das NapacGranulat hergestellt.

Wenn kein sterilisiertes Substrat verwendet wird, ist aussen eine leichte Verpilzung des Bodens und der Wände möglich, ebenso wenn die Töpfe eng, Topf an Topf, stehen und der Topf nicht gelegentlich abtrocknen kann.
Bei den Pilzen handelt es sich vor allem um Schimmelpilze, welche für den natürlichen Abbauprozess des Topfes wichtig sind. Diese haben keinen negativen Einfluss auf die Kulturpflanzen. Die Pflanzen werden davon nicht befallen.
Diese Schimmelpilze treten meist vermehrt in der Übergangszeit zwischen Herbst und Winter bzw. Winter und Frühjahr auf und verschwinden dann wieder und sind für ein Bioprodukt völlig normal und harmlos.

Napac NaturePots sind:
Erfahrungen haben gezeigt, dass mit einer Kultur im Napac NaturePot die gleiche Qualität erzielt wird wie im Plastiktopf. Bei gewissen Kulturen bleiben die Pflanzen etwas kompakter. Meist sind die Pflanzen zu Beginn der Kultur etwas gedrungener, dafür aber kräftiger und mit stärkerem Wurzelwachstum und holen den Rückstand im weiteren Verlauf auf. Die Wärme staut sich im Napac NaturePot weniger. Es empfiehlt sich, bei empfindlichen und schwach wachsenden Pflanzen zuerst Testkulturen anzulegen.
Sind ein Abfallstoff aus der Reisaufbereitung und stammen meist aus italienischen Anbaugebieten der Poebene. In vielen Reisanbaugebieten werden Reisspelzen und das Reisstroh verbrannt.
Für die Herstellung der NAPAC NaturePots verwenden wir nachwachsende Rohstoffe (Naturfasern wie Chinaschilf oder Reisspelzen). Alle verwendeten Fasern können weder als Tierfutter noch als Nahrungsmittel verwendet werden. Weitere Rohstoffe sind Hanf und Stroh.
Probleme mit Trauermücken sind kein spezifisches Problem der NAPAC NaturePots, sondern des verwendeten Substrates. Sie können unter Downloads ein Merkblatt mit dem Titel: «Trauermücken: Empfehlung zur Regulierung» vom Forschungsinstitut für biologischen Landbau (FiBL) in Frick (Schweiz), als PDF «downloaden».
Der Napac NaturePot hat eine poröse Wand. Dadurch verdunstet er etwas mehr Wasser als in einem Plastiktopf. Dies kann eine höhere Frequenz beim Wassergeben bedingen. Wenn der Topf längere Zeit im Wasser steht, zieht er durch die Topfwand Wasser nach. Daher können bei einer Ebbe/Flut-Bewässerung etwas kürzere Anstauzeiten gewählt werden. Bei nässeempfindlichen Pflanzen ist stehendes Wasser zu vermeiden, da dieses sonst zu einer «Vernässung» des Substrates führt.
Der Topf selbst nimmt durch längere Nässeperioden keinen Schaden, die Topfwand wird allerdings etwas dunkler und flexibler. Wenn der Topf abtrocknet, wird die Wand wieder heller und hart.
Mit einer speziellen Granulat-Aufbereitungsanlage wird aus 70% bis 80% Naturfasern und Naturbindern wie z.B. Baumharz der Werkstoff NapacGranulat hergestellt, Ausgangsprodukt für die Napac-Produkte.

Ab Juni 2009 wird unser Sortiment auf vielfachen Kundenwunsch um zwei neue Topfgrössen erweitert. Napac entwickelt den 3 Liter Topf (NNP190) mit einer Höhe von 14,5 cm und einen 5 Liter Topf (NNP230) mit einer Höhe von 18 cm.
Ab Juli 2009 kommt noch ein neuer Rosentopf hinzu (12cmx12cm).
Napac NatureBox
Nach dem erfolgreichen Angebot von Kräutern (Basilikum, Petersilie und Thymian) wird im kommenden Jahr Thymian durch Schnittlauch ersetzt. Zurzeit ist die «Zürcher Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften» in Wädenswil dabei, die optimalen Samen in einem gross angelegten Test zu eruieren.
Für das kommende Jahr wird das Angebot mit Sommerflor («Studentenblume», «Steinkraut» und «Fleissiges Lieschen»), in einer Dreierkombination (pro Blume ein Topf) weiterentwickelt.
Für die Liebhaber von Sonnenblumen wird es eine Eintopfvariante mit «Helianthus Pacino» in der Napac NatureBox geben.
Zertifizierung
Das sehr wichtige Zertifikat «CERIFICATE FOR AWARDING AND USE OF THE ‚OK BIODEGRADABLE SOIL’ CONFORMITY Mark» von AIB-VINÇOTTE International wurde für die Napac Schweiz AG am 19. Juni 2008 bis zum 10. April 2013 verlängert. Das Zertifikat von Vinçotte bestätigt die biologische Abbaubarkeit der Napac Produkte.

Im St.Galler Tagblatt vom 10. Sept. beschreibt «Hortulus» auf amüsante Art die Problematik der Hobbygärtner bei der Entsorgung ihrer Plastiktöpfe. Man mag die Geschichte mit einem Augenzwinkern lesen, trotz allem zeigt sie die Unzufriedenheit der Konsumentinnen und Konsumenten bei der Entsorgung ihrer Plastiktöpfe auf.
